On Tuesday August 8th 2007 I attended a work event and history making exhibition. Several months ago A&R Edelman had decided to treat it's employees to a S.F. Giants baseball game. Although the arrangements were made months ago the timing couldn't have been better. I am in my last week of my internship, and also in the last week of California life. I decided to take the chance to go to the game as one last San Francisco treat (even though the event was employees only, no spouses, etc. plus Jenna probably wanted a break from me anyways). So we left work a touch early and piled in the CalTrain to get to AT&T Park for our pregame BBQ. After some gourmet hot-dogs we took our seats in left field.
Now unfortunately the last time Barry Bonds hit a home-run down the left field line was probably in the late 90's. However, it did give us a good view of the history that was about to ensue. Barry was hot on that cool August night. He had a solid single, and even more well-struck double off the wall in his first two at bats. Finally, in this third at bat, and with a story-book perfect 3-2 count, Barry Lamar Bonds did what we had all come to see. Bonds hit career home-run number 756, breaking the old record set by Hank Aaron. The stadium got loud, and just for a moment took a breath, allowing a penetrating silence to hear leather collide with cedar, and to send another page of the record books turning.
The scene was unreal. People were going crazy, they stopped the game, changed the bases, had a mini press conference, fireworks, streamers, everything. It was absolutely insane. I was just glad that I was able to witness it.
I am on my second to last day here in A&R Edelman in San Mateo. It's been really good. I have learned a lot and had a very eye-opening experience. I have also made a few friends along the way. All of that aside, I can not wait to be back in Utah with my real friends and family, and my soon t0 be wonderful beautiful wife. Lots of changes coming up, we'll try and keep you posted.
